What is Sober Living? Los Angeles, CA

Harbor House

From academics to recreation, the men in Harbor House can build rich, full lives with improved mental health, free from substance abuse. The managers and directors spend a great deal of time with each house member, checking in with them, discussing their goals, fears, and decisions. We believe that it takes the personal experience of someone who has recovered from drug abuse to know what it takes to break the cycle of substance abuse and identify with the individual. This personal connection can make all the difference in the world when it comes to learning to live a healthy lifestyle in sobriety. Established structured sober living provides a distraction-free environment without having to pass by the dealer’s house, endure toxic relationships, or be tempted to party.

Levels of Support

They can learn skills that allow them to be successful long after they have left our doors. At our sober living homes for men in Los Angeles, we incorporate the entire family into the structured recovery process. Our 12-Step Social Program for recovery from substance abuse  includes therapy, peer support and medication management for you to recover safely. Of course, being in this type of environment makes relapse much less likely as well! One of the biggest and most attractive aspects of our program is the huge community and highly engaged alumni that continue to participate in and support the house.

At first glance, you’ll feel the love and camaraderie that pervades these young men. Contact us when you are ready to become a resident or for information about our young men’s sober living homes. Our educational program is designed to help young men further their education, earn their next achievements and degrees, and learn fundamental life and relationship skills. Everything from traditional college programs to professional certifications and trade schools, we help support each young man to identify, pursue and achieve their dreams. Founded in San Pedro by Perry Petacia, Harbor House was formed to directly serve young men in recovery. An alcoholic himself, Perry had been through a recovery center that emphasized identifying and modifying self-sabotaging behavior.

While some are just looking for stable housing and a chance to practice ongoing sobriety, families are drawn to Harbor House for different reasons. All of the residents will have breakfast with one another, and begin their day with a lot of support. Many residents will finish chores and other activities, based on their daily schedule. For those in early recovery, they get substance abuse and mental health treatment through the private Harbor House program at Clear Recovery Center.

At the time, long-term, sober living resident services for teens and young men in Los Angeles were unavailable. The disparity in their emotional ages, social skills, and life experiences was Harbor House Review significant enough to require different approaches for each group of men for sobriety. Allowing you the perfect environment to build life and coping skills in a new and supportive sober living home surrounded by the recovery community of our Alumni.

This means addressing their mental health, and engaging in mentorship and programming. All of these are key components needed to overcome anxiety, depression and substance use. As a result, these will allow young men to learn and practice a range of skills for their well-being to live a balanced and healthy life.

Why People Choose a Sober Living Program

Thanks to peer grouping, friendships made in the houses last long after graduation from our sober living homes. A like-minded support group is essential for long-term success in any type of program that encourages permanent change. Staying sober is not just about abstinence from drugs and alcohol–it is about addressing the emotional underlying issues. It is also about learning healthy habits and embracing a new life, free from substances. Unlike other rehab aftercare centers and sober living homes, New Life Hosue uses a peer-grouping method that helps those in recovery connect with individuals going through the same life experiences.

Harbor House

Step Social Program

The residents can stay engaged with alumni who are out in the world, living successfully, but love to continue to participate in the program. Similarly, we take a gradual approach to re-introducing different aspects of independent living. For example, at the beginning of the program, residents will use a house phone instead of a cell phone to disconnect from digital distractions and social media.

Family Therapy Progam

  1. When young people complete their stay at the sober living home, they are encouraged to return to support the newer members, hence making the new members’ transition into the structured program smoother.
  2. At Harbor House, in addition to strengthening life skills, growing community, and developing character, our young men have the opportunity to participate in a number of curated higher education opportunities.
  3. However, it is highly recommended that teens and young adults remain in a sober living home for at least a year to a year and a half.

Some sober living homes offer 1 to 3-month-long programs while others offer 12 months or 18-month-long programs. Many individuals in early recovery feel overwhelmed, and the risk of relapse is at its highest. The longer an individual stays in a safe, structured, and drug and alcohol-free environment, the more support they have.

Once house members reach the vocational phase, they’ll go to work as scheduled. They are able to take advantage of the accountability the program provides. Additionally, the staff is aware of all comings and goings, and available to assist with any difficult situations that arise. Our sober living environment provides the benefit of sober housing and an engaged and attentive community providing support and mentorship.
